Housing Slowdown? Not Here!

My father calls has been calling me every week to tell me how terrible the real estate market is for the past year. Finally, this week, he got it. It seems that his primary source of information, the Wall Street Journal, ran an article this week touting the Charlotte markets’ growth and building starts. Hmmm, really?
Every week when I read the latest real estate magazines, I just want to scream. The mags are full of articles on how to keep going in a slow market, how to sell houses in a Buyers market and how to use the internet to find Buyers so you can pay your bills.
Now hear this – the Charlotte market is BOOMING. Our prices have been steadily increasing, homes sell quickly and people are moving to the area by the masses. It simply hasn’t let up. Now, I live and work around Lake Norman, so it’s possible that my business is somewhat insulated as waterfront properties don’t ever seem to decrease, but even the Charlotte Observer has reported significant growth in our housing market which includes the entire Charlotte-metro area.
I’m no economist, but I think there are several reasons for this upward trend. Charlotte is the 2nd largest banking capital of the U.S and has many business headquarters. We also have a higher education level than the national average. Combine this with every day things like the weather and other quality of life issues, and you’ll understand why Charlotte is, in my humble opinion, the BEST place to live, bar-none.
